Philip Morant (1700-1770) publish his seminal work “The History and Antiquities of the The County of Essex” in 1768. This map was part of Morant’s herculean opus. He was a clergyman and celebrated historian of Essex and Colchester. After his ordination, he held his first Curacy at Great Waltham. Subsequently he served as the Rector at St Mary-at-the Walls Colchester and the Rector of Aldham, both parishes in Essex.
